Fishermen sift through tropical storm aftermath in Vietnam
A group of fishermen sifted through the aftermath of a tropical storm in Vietnam.
Devastating footage shows hundreds of wooden fishing boats washed ashore following Typhoon Kalmaegi's onslaught along the coast of Vung Chao in Dak Lak province.
Local media reported that more than 200 sheds, ships, and artisanal boats were beached by powerful waves, with many sunk or wrecked.
Debris can be seen scattered across the port, while broken parts of several boats float on the water's surface on November 8.
In another clip, damaged houses and uprooted trees are shown strewn across pavements and roads.
Typhoon Kalmaegi, with sustained winds of 149 km/h, made landfall on Thursday, November 6, striking provinces including Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Quang Ngai after battering the Philippines.
Authorities confirmed that five people were killed and several others are still missing in Vietnam. More than 26,000 houses were damaged, and some regions were inundated as rainfall exceeded 300 mm.
The storm has killed at least 188 people and displaced hundreds of thousands across the Philippines, while another 135 remain missing.
Climate experts said typhoons are becoming stronger due to human-induced climate change. Warmer ocean temperatures allow storms to intensify rapidly, while a hotter atmosphere holds more moisture, leading to heavier rainfall.
