This is the shocking moment a downhill mountainbiker lost control and leapt down the hillside.

Footage captured by JM Dequina shows off-road cyclist Russel Pabalate speeding down the slope at Papi's Trail in Tagaytay, the Philippines.

As the trail rider accelerates, he loses balance and jumps into the ditch, with his vehicle toppling onto the ground on October 26.

His stunned friends nearby rushed to help him out of the ravine, hoisting him by their hands while another cyclist removed his bike from the track.

The mountain biker did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

JM said: 'Russel was new to MTB downhill competition, and he did not practice before the event. He won the slowest rider.'
