China: China's accelerated "AI+Manufacturing" integration drives efficiency across industrial chain
Storyline: China's accelerated "AI+Manufacturing" integration drives efficiency across industrial chain [Voice_over] New data from China's manufacturing sector shows that in the first three quarters of this year, industries embraced AI like never before, moving beyond scattered trials to full-scale integration across R&D, production, management, and services. At a Weichai diesel engine factory in Shandong Province, newly assembled engines are passing through the final checkpoint. Each one is scanned by an AI-powered imaging inspection system that checks for defects in about half a second. This smart inspection system ensures quality control for key production steps before the engines are cleared. [Sound_bite] Wang Xinwei, director of AI institute, Weichai Power Co., Ltd.: "Our self-developed 'AI Super Engineer' now contributes to 40 percent of decision-making during the R and D process. By using digital simulation to build engine and vehicle models, we've reduced physical testing by 70 percent." [Voice_over] "AI+manufacturing" synergy is also transforming industries like building materials. At a refractory materials workshop in Jiangsu Province, AI models optimize a steel furnace's temperature curves and material ratios. The AI models have helped extend the furnace's replacement cycle from one year to three, cutting downtime losses by 80 percent. [Sound_bite] Yin Xunfei, researcher, China Center for Information Industry Development: "AI +' is not just about a combination of technology and industries. It's a profound reconstruction of production logic, management models, and value chains. This transformation has evolved from isolated pilot enterprises to large-scale, cross-industry adoption, becoming a core force in upgrading traditional manufacturing." [Voice_over] According to data from September, China has over 42,000 smart factories with various levels of technology, in all 31 provinces, covering more than 90 percent of major manufacturing sectors.
