At least 12 people have been killed including children and several others remain missing after floods and landslides struck several areas across West Sumatra.

Rescue operations are being carried out through ground searches and river patrols using rubber boats. Authorities said the challenging terrain, strong currents, and unstable soil conditions have slowed down the evacuation process.

Officials have urged residents living near riverbanks and landslide-prone areas to remain alert, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue. Local governments have begun setting up emergency shelters and distributing aid to affected families.

In neighboring Malaysia, authorities reported on Wednesday that 21,834 people have been displaced by ongoing flooding in several northern states.
