Phoenix, United States - December 04, 2025 12/04/2025 01:20 am GMT-0700 PEORIA, Ariz. – According to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials at the scene, troopers were notified of a wrong-way driver in a silver sedan traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Loop 101 from Cardinals Way. ADOT Traffic Operation Center operators tracked the driver on camera as he drove several miles against traffic in the HOV lane. A responding DPS trooper was able to intercept the wrong-way driver near Grand Avenue on the Loop 101. The trooper positioned himself in the path of the wrong-way driver with lights and sirens activated. The wrong-way driver slowed down but failed to stop for the trooper, resulting in a minor collision. Additional troopers arrived moments later and boxed in the wrong-way driver. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated, and the adult male driver was taken into custody. Troopers quickly cleared the wrong-way vehicle and involved patrol vehicles out of the travel lanes. Peoria Fire Department medical personnel responded to the scene and evaluated the suspect as a precaution. The suspect refused hospitalization. The suspect faces charges of reckless driving, driving "wrong-way", and failure to avoid a collision.
