Dutch tourist killed as motorcycle loses control and crashes into trailer
A Dutch motorcyclist was killed in a horror motorbike crash in Thailand.
The tourist, aged around 50 to 55, allegedly lost control while driving along a road in Chonburi province, in the early hours of Thursday.
He was said to have rear-ended a parked trailer truck and was thrown some 10 metres (33 feet) away from his black Yamaha Aerox motorcycle.
Police arrived at the scene near the Mab Prachan Reservoir at around 1:10 am local time, where they found the holidaymaker lying dead on the roadside.
Police Captain Siriyaporn Khongpetchsak of the Nong Prue Police Station said: ‘We have inspected the scene and taken photographs as evidence. We will check nearby security cameras to determine the cause of the accident.
‘Rescuers were assigned to transport the victim's body to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital, where it is being kept. The body will remain there until relatives present the required documents to claim it for funeral rites.'
Truck owner, Jeerasak Salathong, 40, told police: 'At the time, I was resting upstairs in my house when I saw the motorcycle speeding before it lost control. It was swerving from side to side before skidding on the road, causing sparks to fly. When I went outside to check, I found that my truck parked in front of my house had been hit, and the trailer's tyre had burst.'
Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased.
Pattaya in Chonburi province is a famous beach destination for tourists, many of whom rent scooters and motorbikes to explore the island. But winding roads, inexperienced riders, and disregard for local traffic rules can cause serious collisions involving the visitors.
