Helicopter mountain rescue team saves hikers trapped in avalanche
This is the heroic moment when a helicopter mountain rescue team saved two hikers trapped in an avalanche.
The mountaineers were swept 660ft by snow while climbing in the Valdezcaray ski area in Spain on December 21.
The rescue involved specialists from the Mountain Rescue Service and the Civil Guard Air Service working alongside Valdezcaray ski station staff.
Footage shows rescuers securing the stranded hikers before lifting them onto the aircraft.
Authorities said the operation was made difficult by strong winds, dense fog, and fresh snowfall, which severely reduced visibility.
Rescuers also worked under the constant risk of further avalanches during the hours-long mission.
