As the world prepared to ring in the New Year, renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik created a magnificent sand sculpture with floral installations depicting the lotus face of Mahaprabhu Jagannath at Puri Beach, Odisha, on Wednesday. The artwork carried the message “Jay Jagannath 2026.”

The special New Year installation beautifully blends sand with vibrant, colourful flowers, symbolising renewal, positivity, and the fragrance of new beginnings. Crafted with intricate detailing, the artwork conveys wishes for happiness, environmental awareness, and global unity in the coming year.

The 20-fit high, 55-fit length sand sculpture, adorned with lotus and marigold chrysanthemums, was completed with the dedicated support of students from Pattnaik’s Sand Art Institute, who joined hands with him in bringing the magnificent creation to life.

Every year, we welcome the New Year through our art at the feet of Mahaprabhu. I extend my New Year greetings to everyone, praying for peace, prosperity, good health, and unity in the year ahead,” said Pattnaik.

Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has participated in over 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals, winning numerous awards for India. He is widely recognised for using sand art as a medium to raise awareness on social and environmental issues, including HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, global warming, terrorism, plastic pollution, and environmental conservation.
