India: Tribal Family's Anguish as Newborn Vanishes from Dhanbad Hospital
On 28 December Sunday Dhanbad, Jharkhand A serious case of theft of a newborn baby has come to light from biggest government hospital, Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH).
The newborn baby of a tribal couple living in the Tundi police station area has mysteriously disappeared from a hospital ward. The incident has caused chaos in the hospital premises, with the family crying and pleading for justice.
The child's mother, Sarita Devi, said she is a resident of Bhelve in the Maniyadih police station area of Tundi. She came to the hospital with her husband Shaligram Marandi, on December 24th.The doctors admitted Sarita to the gynecology and obstetrics department, where she gave birth to a boy.
Meanwhile, last night at around 8 o'clock, an unknown woman posing as a nurse approached the child's mother and took the child out of the ward, saying that she would examine the child.
The child's mother, Sarita Devi, disguised as a nurse, followed the woman who was carrying her child, but the cunning woman suddenly disappeared.When the child was not seen for a long time, the family began searching for him, but found no trace. The hospital administration was then informed.
As soon as the information about the case was received, the police of Saraidhela police station reached the spot and scanned the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital.CCTV footage showed a woman clearly visible carrying a newborn baby while wearing a face mask. Police are now working to identify and search for the woman based on the footage.
Meanwhile, the family has accused the hospital administration of serious negligence. They say that if the hospital had proper security measures in place, such an incident would not have occurred. They have demanded the child's recovery as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, hospital senior manager Dr. Suman Kumar and Saraidhela police station inspector Manjeet Singh said that as soon as information about the case was received, it was informed to Saraidhela police.
The police and hospital administration are currently investigating the matter. He said every effort is being made to safely recover the newborn.
