A Chinese fugitive has been arrested in Bangkok over a hospital corruption scandal in his home country.

Song, 49, allegedly bribed Chinese hospital officials to win construction and procurement contracts before fleeing to Thailand.

He was detained at a house in Bangkok on Monday, following cooperation between Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau and Chinese law enforcement.

Footage shows officers storming the spacious two-storey home in the Bang Kapi district, where Song was found living alone, on December 15.

Cops informed him that his permission to remain in Thailand had been revoked and that he would be deported.

Police said Song had rigged hospital biddings to secure lucrative deals for medical equipment and construction projects in Yunnan, southwestern China.

The scandal had caused more than 60 million yuan (6.37 million GBP) in financial losses, they added.

The raid came following intelligence from the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center that Song was hiding in Thailand.

Before his arrest, Chinese authorities had cancelled his passport, and Thai immigration revoked his permission to stay.

He was held in police custody pending extradition to China.
