This is the shocking moment a hair straightener exploded as a young woman was styling her hair before a night out.

Jamie Ann Baloaloa was recording herself using the device when it started making a strange sound in her hand in Ilocos Norte, the Philippines.

Footage shows the moment the straightener malfunctioned, prompting Jamie to check the cable and handle on January 6.

Suddenly, the cable emitted a shower of sparks and a loud bang, causing the startled woman to scream in terror and jump away.

Upon hearing the commotion, her father, Gilbert Rebiajos Baloaloa, rushed into the room and immediately pulled the plug from the electrical socket.

Jamie believes the device exploded due to wear and tear, as she had been using it for almost three years.

She did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
