Storyline China accelerates building of modern transportation, logistics network China has successfully developed its national transportation network as part of its 14th Five Year Plan for Social and Economic Development from 2021 to 2025. One standout accomplishment has been the establishment of Europe-China train routes as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. With destinations in 232 cities in 26 European countries, officials from China's Railway group say the trains have made 120,000 trips and transported some 490 billion U.S. dollars- worth of goods. Domestic logistics has been prioritized as well in the form of new regional logistics hubs and business centers, and enhanced automation levels for multimodal transportation that combine river, railway, and sea. According to data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the value of the country's social logistics sector rose more 5 percent year-on-year to top 41 trillion U.S. dollars in the first ten months of 2025. Li Liancheng, director, Institute of Comprehensive Transportation, National Development and Reform Commission: "Currently, China's transportation and logistics sector is accelerating its transition from traditional factor-driven growth to smart and green empowerment. Efforts have been made to eliminate bottlenecks, and tackle pain points and difficulties, so as to realize the logistics sector's transformation from 'leading the world in quantity' to 'a comprehensive leap in quality." Another transportation accomplishment in the country has been efforts to move bulk cargo transportation off highways and onto railways and waterways. In the first ten months of 2025, interconnected rail-sea-train services handled more than 14 million twenty-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, a year-on-year increase of more than 16 percent.
