Iran naval ship Shahid Mahdavi sails off South Africa’s coast
Cape Town, South Africa - 14 January 2026: The Shahid Mahdavi, a ship operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC), continues to sail off South Africa’s coast. The vessel arrived last week at docked at the Simon’s Town naval base. The ship forms part of the naval fleet belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The ship is in South Africa’s territorial waters to take part in the in the BRICS Plus naval drills overseen by China.
