Heavy snowfall turned parts of downtown Philadelphia into an improvised winter playground on January 25, 2026, as a powerful snowstorm blanketed the city.

Video shared by X user MORE SOUL shows several people riding red plastic sleds and tubes tied by ropes to the back of a Jeep. The vehicle pulls the sledders along snow-covered streets at noticeable speed, passing traffic lights and tall buildings partially obscured by snowy haze. Pedestrians bundled in winter clothing watch from sidewalks as the sleds slide and sway across the slick pavement.

The scene unfolded during the region’s first significant winter storm of 2026, a strong nor’easter that delivered between 7 and 12 inches of snow across southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and Delaware. Some locations saw even higher totals, including 11.8 inches recorded in Pipersville. The system brought snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain, along with gusty winds that created dangerous travel conditions.

The storm caused widespread impacts, including hazardous roads, reduced visibility, power outages, flight cancellations at Philadelphia International Airport, and school closures the following day. Officials urged caution as conditions worsened.

While some residents embraced the storm with creative snow activities, authorities warned of serious risks. At least three deaths in Pennsylvania were linked to snow-shoveling incidents during the storm, underscoring the dangers associated with extreme winter weather.

No injuries were reported from the sledding activity shown in the video, capturing a playful but risky moment as the storm swept through the region.
