St. Louis Firefighters Rescue Dog From Icy Waters
ST. LOUIS — A dog trapped in frigid water was rescued after falling through thin ice during single-digit temperatures, according to the St. Louis Fire Department.
Fire officials said the animal wandered onto a frozen body of water when the ice gave way, leaving the dog unable to swim to safety as the cold quickly set in. The department’s Marine Rescue Task Force was dispatched and responded within minutes.
Crews launched a rescue boat, navigated hazardous icy conditions and reached the dog just in time. Firefighters carefully pulled the animal from the freezing water and brought it to shore.
The dog was reported to be doing well following the rescue and is expected to make a full recovery. The department released video showing the rescue boat’s arrival and the moment the dog was safely removed from the water.
