Terrifying moment massive sinkhole engulfs fish pond causing house collapse in southern China
A massive sinkhole opened up swallowing a fish pond and causing a house to collapse in southern China.
Video filmed in Chongqing on March 14 shows the more than 10-metre-diametre sinkhole that opened up underneath the pond.
A small house positioned nearby eventually was also swallowed by the sinkhole.
A staff member from the Geological Survey Department of the Beibei District Planning and Natural Resources Bureau stated that the initial investigation concluded that the incident was caused by karst subsidence - the gradual dissolution of soluble substance.
According to reports, nearly 10,000 kg of fish were swallowed into the sinkhole overnight. No casualties were reported.
A detailed survey of the site is underway and relevant remediation plans are being formulated.
