A winter swimmer and a police officer teamed up to save a drowning man from a lake in southern China.

The video was filmed in Changsha City in Hunan Province on November 5.

Cheng Wei, a member of the Changsha winter swimming team, was passing the Meixi Lake Bridge when he heard a civilian's cry for help - someone had fallen into the water.

Faced with a man drowning hundreds of metres from shore, no one dared to act rashly. Cheng Wei immediately abandoned his electric bike and, equipped with his personal swimming gear, plunged into the icy lake to rescue the man.

A patrolling police officer also dived in to assist. Thanks to their combined efforts, the victim was successfully rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital. The drowning man, now safe, is reported to be in stable condition.

Cheng, who has been winter swimming for about seven years, said he was excited to have saved a life, essentially saving a family.

成先生表示，自己游冬泳大概7年，这次救下落水者心里还是很兴奋的，毕竟拯救了一个家庭。他建议，如果失足落水，不会游泳的情况下，要保持冷静，身体尽量后仰，手脚张开，呈大字形，这样就不容易下沉，让口鼻浮出水面，为自己争取救援时间。
