Clever bird finds tasty snacks in zebra’s hairy ears

Buy video

This video was recorded in a wilderness area of the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It shows the wonderful and very useful friendship behaviour that exist between oxpecker birds and zebras .The zebra’s hairy ears are the perfect place for ticks and parasites to gather and hide. It is impossible for the zebra to get rid of these irritations without some outside help. The oxpecker birds know very well where these ticks hide and the ears are one of the first places they check. The bird enjoys his tasty snacks while at the same time the zebra gets rid of the dangerous blood sucking parasites inside his hairy ears. This is a win-win relationship and a great example for us humans.
