Young male lions display brotherly love during sunrise in African bush
The African male lion is the single greatest wildlife draw card on the continent. He is known as the king of the beasts and an apex predator. He rules supreme by virtue of his sheer physical strength and powerful enough to bring down prey up to three times his own size. These beasts have been feared by man for centuries, but at the same time we have been utterly fascinated and amused by these astonishingly powerful big cats. In saying this, lions are not always these terrifying creatures as we would like to believe. This video was filmed during a safari in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It shows a great example of the more gentle side of the male lion. Seen here are two young male lions, engaged in what is called a greeting ceremony. They rub heads and sides together, rolling on top of one another and gently biting each other in playful manner. Lions are the only social cats on this planet. These ritual social greeting ceremonies between pride members are crucial for strengthening the family bond and relationships between family members. By cooperating in prides, lions are able to kill bigger animals, making them unstoppable killing machines that puts them right at the top of the food chain. It is fascinating to understand and know that these social interactions, as seen in this video, is the core foundation for absolutely everything in a lion’s life and during its existence in the wild. Watching these two beautiful cats displaying their brotherly love for one another during a glorious African sunrise was the experience of a lifetime.
