A farmers organisation, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana, has launched an agitation demanding better prices for milk producers. It has called upon its members to block the supply of milk to cities indefinitely.

A group of Sanghtana members came across a milk truck near Washim on July 16 and were furious that it was defying their ban and set it on fire.

The driver argued with them and refused to leave the truck, but later got down hastily as the fire spread.

More than 100 tankers were reportedly stopped by Sanghtana members and about 50 of them were reported to have been vandalised.

Member of Parliament and leader of Sanghtana, Raju Shetti, has called upon his members to protest peacefully.
