Indian forest officials worked all night to drive an elephant back to the forest only to have it coming back to the town in the morning.

A wild elephant strayed into Cuttack in eastern India looking for food on December 24. A resident spotted the animal and alerted the forest department.

With blaring sirens and flashing off-road lights, Indian forest officials drove the elephant out of a town after a prolonged mid-night chase.

They left after thinking that the elephant had returned to the Athagarh forest.

But a few hours later, at the crack of the dawn, the elephant returned to the town for more action, which included chasing unfortunate stray cows.

The officials also returned, and with the help of a group of morning walkers, chased the elephant back to the forest again.
