A wild elephant that got separated from its herd and strayed into a village, is seen gleefully walking around in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal.

The incident took place at Jamuria village, five kilometres (3.10 miles) away from Jhargram town of the eponymous district on May 2.

Panic gripped the villagers as the wild pachyderm strolled the roads in search of food.

The video shows, the curious elephant foraging near trees using its trunk.

Following this, the villagers tried to pursue the elephant out of the settlement.

However, the giant pays no heed to them and continues eating.

After several attempts, they manage to pursue the animal into the nearby Kalabani forest.
