Doctors in southern India’s Karnataka removed a three-inch-long chicken bone from a man’s throat after he complained of breathlessness. The bone was removed three days after it got stuck while the man was consuming meat.

The patient was identified as 27-year-old Berappa Mantappanavar, from Sangur village in the state’s Haveri district.

At first, he had complained of breathlessness and received treatment at the Malladad Rudramma Memorial Hospital. When his conditions did not improve, doctors at the hospital decided to perform an X-ray and find out the cause of his ailment.

X-ray images revealed that the man had a chicken bone stuck inside his throat. Doctors then decided to perform a non-invasive surgery and extract the bone piece.

The surgery was successful following a two-hour-long endoscopy. The development was also confirmed by the doctors at the hospital.

The operation was also caught on tape. Footages showed that the area surround the stuck bone had developed an infection. Before the bone was extracted, pus developed as a result of the infection was also drained out.

The patient is now undergoing treatment for neck infection.

The bone also damaged his mucosal, a thin skin that covers the inside surface of nose and mouth.
