A team of doctors saved the life of a young girl who arrived at the hospital with a large piece of chicken cartilage stuck in her throat.

The 11-year-old girl from Pskov, Russia, arrived at the Pediatric University Hospital on October 27.

The cartilage was reportedly lodged in the lower part of the girl's larynx and prevented her from breathing, which prompted medics to take urgent action and schedule immediate surgery.

Pediatric University officials said: 'The decision on the medical evacuation of the girl was made by the rector of the Pediatric University Dmitry Ivanov.

'The girl was admitted directly to the operating table, bypassing the emergency room, along the so-called 'red corridor'.'

Footage from the hospital captured head surgeon Maria Zakharova carefully removing the cartilage from the girl's inflamed larynx with special forceps.

The hospital reported: 'The operation was performed under general anaesthesia, with the support of experienced anesthesiologists, under the control of a microscope.'

Zakharova added: 'Thanks to the fact that the Pediatric University has the most modern equipment, we were able to get a full view and perform precise manipulations.'

Local media reported that the girl's condition is stable following the surgery.
