In a shocking incident, a mahout was accidentally crushed to death by his own elephant in southern India. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras.

It took place on Mar. 3 at around 9 a.m. in Kerala’s Kottayam district.

The deceased was identified as Arun Paniker (40).

The footage showed Paniker cleaning the elephant. He then tries to take a swing at the pachyderm and somehow slips. To his horror, the mammal decided to land itself at the same moment. However, the elephant was unaware about its place of landing, as it sat on top of the human, completely crushing him.

The incident was also noticed by another man, who ran quickly towards the mammal, but by the time the second man got the elephant to stand up, it was already very late.

The other man was seen dragging the body away from the spot.

Reports said Paniker’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
