An elephant is seen bathing in the river to beat the heat as the mahout (keeper) watches over amid the novel coronavirus lockdown in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The incident was captured on a drone on April 20 in Thamirabrani River which flows in between Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi district.

The drone and camera footage show the mahout bathing the elephant in the river, after which the elephant sprinkles water over its body using the trunk.

According to the reports, hundreds of people visit the river every day to wash.

Since the lockdown was imposed, the number of visitors has dropped significantly.
