Bungling motorist has to be rescued after trying to drive through flooded road
A bungling driver had to be rescued after trying to cross a flooded road in his pick-up truck during torrential storms which have affected millions of residents and killed at least 30 people.
Officials had warned road users about the highway road which was cut off after rising water from the local river fluxing the city of Roi Et, northeastern Thailand.
The pickup truck which ignored the order was attempting to pass through the flooded road and eventually driving off the shoulder before falling into the deep swamp.
Two passengers managed to evacuate safely before calling the rescue foundation to help remove their sunken vehicle.
Footage from last Saturday (07/09) shows officers from highway rescue foundation provided heavy equipment, including crane and combine harvester, to lift the car.
The team attached ropes under the truck's engine with their two off-road trucks before successfully dragging it out from the water.
A volunteer said: ''We waited for the rain to stop before we began the rescue in the evening. It took about 20 minutes to pull up the pickup truck.
''The authority already alerted residents to avoid using the road but the car still continued driving. Luckily, the passengers were not stuck inside and could leave the car just in time.''
Floods which began from Storm Podul have battered northern Thailand and Laos over recent weeks. In some parts of Thailand the water has been more than 10 metres deeps. Millions of residents have been affected and hundreds of thousands left homeless.
