This is the hilarious moment a commuter chases after a bus - desperately holding on as it drags him along the ground.

The man gave chase when the blue 'jeepney' vehicle passed the stop in Manila, the Philippines, earlier this month (September 10).

One commuter dropped his umbrella in the frantic race to climb onboard, while the man in an orange shirt ran for around 40 metres.

He then grabbed onto a bar and tried to leap onto a step at the back of the bus - only to miss completely.

He the tried to keep up by running while being dragged by the bus. But when the vehicle stopped he dejectedly gave up after realising it was full.

The video was captured by Marvin Mercado who was driving behind the jeepney when it happened in the overcrowded Pasig City area of Metro Manila.

He said: "The man appeared okay as he just walked away after it happened. He looked so disappointed though.

''I hope he will be more careful next time. But it's difficult to get a ride in that area, so people have to resort to these kind of desperate things."

Earlier this month desperate commuters running late for work were seen climbing through the windows of a packed bus in Manila.

While in August in the same city, a bus conductor was likened to 'Spiderman' because of the way he climbed over passengers heads to collect fares as there was no space for him to walk in the aisle.

The Metro Manila area - the larger area around the capital Manila - is home to at least 13 million people and has become notorious for its traffic chaos. Studies show the metropolis is now the most congested city in developing Asia.
