Swarms of locusts cross over from Pakistan to consume crops in north India

A massive swarm of locusts that moved through Pakistan into India has been consuming millions of dollars of crops from local farmland.

The insects were recorded here swarming over a field in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on January 3, but have been plaguing the area since May 2019.

According to local farmers, since the government has done little to fight this menace, meaning the locusts keep raiding their farms and cleaning out their standing crops.  

According to the locals, the desert locust cannot fly long distances usually, but the wind helps them to cover large distances.
