A candidate contesting for the Sarpanch election was seen throwing banknotes of Rs 500( $7) into the air in a bid to woo voters in the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan.

The incident took place on January 29 in a small village of Ganeshpura located in the state's Bundi district.

Visuals show a candidate throwing currency notes in the air as hordes of villagers rush to grab the fallen money.


The incident almost caused a stampede as the impulsive crowd was falling over each other to pick the notes.


According to the reports, the money was being distributed to buy the villagers votes as the Sarpanch elections had entered the third phase.

The election commission has launched an inquiry regarding the incident and further details are awaited.
