A Hindu group hosted a cow urine drinking party on Saturday (March 14) in a bid to ward off the coronavirus.

The party was hosted by a group called the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (All India Hindu Union) in Delhi.

Hindus consider cows to be sacred and some believe cow urine has medicinal properties.

"We have been drinking cow urine for 21 years, we also take a bath in cow dung. We have never felt the need to consume English medicine," said Om Prakash, a person who attended the party.

There is no evidence to suggest urine prevents COVID-19 and there is currently no know cure for the virus.

To contain the spread of coronavirus in Delhi, Chakrapani Maharaj, who heads one of the factions of the Hindu Mahasabha, has decided to throw a 'cow urine party.'

While the health ministry is setting up testing facilities and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking an extensive review of India’s preparedness to deal with the COVID-19, members of the religious outfit are planning to spread awareness on the efficacy of cow excreta in treating the disease.

The video shows members of the religious fringe group distributing cow urine among the attendees.

Some can be seen engrossed in various rituals encompassing the cow urine.

"We have been drinking cow urine for 21 years, we also take a bath in cow dung. We have never felt the need to consume English medicine," said Om Prakash, a person who attended the party.

The virus, which has infected more than 138,000 people worldwide and left over 5,000 dead, has no known scientific cure and governments across the world are struggling to control the spread of the pandemic.
