Power lines town down after summer storms hit northern Thailand

Footage shows the aftermath of powerful summer storms that hit Chiang Rai, northern Thailand on Monday (13/04) night.

Several electric poles were torn down by strong wind and heavy rain which swept through the north and northeast region where some were even hit with a hailstorm.

Officials were clearing away dozens of electricity poles which blew down causing power cuts.

The provincial governor Prajon Pratchsakul said that there were no reports of injuries but the authority will act immediately to help the locals.

He said: "The storm hit nine districts with no report on any casualties so far, but since it came in the night it was hard to evaluate all the damage.

"However, we will begin the thorough evaluation as soon as possible so we can issue provide assistance for residents.''
