A teacher from West Bengal in India is so dedicated to continuing his online classes for his students during the coronavirus lockdown that he is climbing a tree every day to get a better data signal.

Footage showed the 35-year-old resident of the Bankura district walking to a tall tree and hauling himself up to a platform where he can get online and continue to give his classes.

The history teacher normally works at a private school in Kolkata but has been confined to his village since the start of the lockdown on March 23rd.

Plagued by a poor data connection, he was initially unable to reach his students online and was on the verge of giving up when he decided to give the tree a shot.

"The idea to climb atop a tree is not new. As we live very close to the forests, we are used to seeing elephant attacks and the elders would climb tall trees and keep watch. When I faced network problems, I too decided to follow the method,’’ he said.

A nationwide lockdown and poor cellular network have forced a teacher in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal to climb atop a neem tree for the better part of the day to teach students online.

According to reports, 35-year-old, a resident of Bankura district's Ahanda village, follows the tedious activity every day.

He doesn't want his students to feel inconvenienced, teaches history at a Kolkata-based private institute that trains civil service and other government job aspirants.

Confined to the village because of the lockdown- which started from March 23- his trouble started when the institute decided to begin mandatory online classes for the students.

Plagued by poor cellular connectivity, he was unable to connect with the students online.  

He was almost on the verge of giving up when suddenly an idea clicked in his mind. He decided to climb a neem tree neighbouring his home to take care of his internet troubles.

Every morning he can be found sitting atop a makeshift platform that rests on tree branches, which he made with help from his friends. The platform is made up of bamboo, gunny sacks and hay.

He also takes food and water along with him while teaching. The best part is, by being at the height, he not only gets better signals on his cell phone but can also maintain the notion of social distancing.

Visuals shot on April 22 show him climbing the tree with a bag and papers. Once he makes himself comfortable, he starts the online class.
