Driver speeds away from traffic policeman after allegedly being caught talking on his phone

This is a shocking moment a police officer was almost hit by a car after he ordered the driver to stop talking on the phone.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Theerapon Kantreesombat was directing traffic at a junction in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand on Thursday (May 7 afternoon.

He then spotted a driver in a pickup allegedly talking on the phone while he was approaching the junction.

He signalled to the driver with a hand gesture to tell him to stop the call and pull over.

Footage from the office's helmet shows the driver not only ignored the directions, but he sped up toward the officer pushing him off balance and then sped away.

The shocked officer used his radio to report the issue to the station then he resumed his duty.

He said: "I just tried to tell him to stop the call because it's dangerous, not just for him but for the other drivers.

"I was only going to talk to him and warn him, but he has made the situation worse. He refused to stop the car and he almost hit me, so now we have to find and charge him.''

Police released the video in a public appeal to find the driver of the white Isuzu pickup truck.
