A leopard was found in a severely injured state on a patch of private land and was rescued by forest officials in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place in a farm field in Sirumugai village, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district on June 14.

The video shows officials conversing before carrying out the rescue operation. They were seen preparing a dart and later snares, before several officials carry the subdued leopard to a cage.

The cage was then loaded to a truck and transported to an animal clinic for treatment.

The big cat had suffered a deep cut on its back, believed to have occurred while trying to cross a sharp wire mesh.

According to local reports, the leopard was found injured by nearby residents, who informed forest officials to rescue the beleaguered cat.

The animal is said to be in a stable condition, after undergoing treatment.
