In a gutsy display of responsiveness, senior district officials rescued a drowning man from floods in northern India’s Bihar.

The incident took place on July 24 when the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) in East Champaran, were on their way to assess a broken embankment along with Bhawanipur village.

Natives to the village fled to safer spots nearby, but the elderly man was left behind, fighting for his life while hanging on to tree bark.

The visuals from the site show DM Kapil Ashok and SP Navinchandra Jha, along with other officials, navigating across the floodwaters to rescue the stranded man.

He can be seen neck-deep in the floodwater latching onto the tree bark before he is rescued using ropes.

According to reports, the lives of over a million people have been affected following heavy floods in the state
