A landslide in the south Indian state of Kerala has killed at least 26 people.

Video shows rescue operations taking place on Saturday in Pettimudi, near Munnar in Idukki district, a mountainous region in Kerala. Nine bodies were recovered on Saturday afternoon after 17 bodies were recovered on Friday.

Rescue operations have been hampered by heavy rain. Authorities said the wet weather was likely to continue in the near future in the area.

On Friday an Air India Express plane with 190 people on board crashed at Kerala's Calicut airport, killing at least 18 people, after it overshot the runway in rainy conditions as it attempted to land.

In a major landslide occured during early hours of 7th August 26 people are killed . Landslide happened at Pettimudi hills in Munnar in Idukki district . The search, which resumed in morning. ( 8th August), turned up nine bodies from the ground around 4 pm. The weather was generally clear until noon but in the afternoon there was heavy rain which hampered the search operations. The 17 bodies found on Friday(7th August) were post-mortemed at Rajamala Hospital and cremated at a nearby sports ground.

The rescue operation is being hampered by the large number of people visiting the landslide site at Munnar Pettimudi. Therefore, in view of the danger to the road in the area and the possibility of landslides again, the authorities suggest that the visit to the affected area should be avoided as much as possible.
