An in-heat female dog was found with her head stuck in a metal gate after trying to mate with a neighbouring male pooch.

The pet, named Nantan, was trying to reach the neighbouring Thai Bangkaew breed of dog name Kung Fu in Samut Songkram, central Thailand on September 29.

When Namtan tried to squeeze through the narrow gaps in the metal barrier, her body was stuck. Namtan was heard crying for help loudly.

Resident Kornkamol Phatchakreng, 48, saw her pet pooch trapped at the gate while one male dog was standing outside waiting.

Kornkamol tried to take her dog out before she called the animal rescuers for help.

Volunteers spent ten minutes pushing and pulling the howling mutt out of the enclosure.

The owner said: "A male dog named Kung Fu had been hanging around for the last three days, waiting for her.

''He was probably happy when he saw her but unfortunately, she was too fat to go on their special date.''

Volunteer rescuer Natthaphong said: "Namtan is quite chubby, so her belly was stuck in the gate. Now's the season that dogs are in heat, so all residents should take well care of them."
