A group of Nigerian nationals protested outside St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa, on December 2 against the alleged friendship between the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

The protesters demanded sanctions against Buhari and his government, which they claim committed large-scale atrocities and attacks against Nigerian Christians.

They also demanded that Justin Welby, in his capacity as the Archbishop of Canterbury, apologise to the Christian community of Nigeria for his interactions with Buhari.

Nigerian expatriate Adeola Oyebade read out a memorandum of demands which was handed to the Bishop of Table Bay Joshua Louw.

Louw promised to hand over the memorandum to the Archbishop of Cape Town, who would then forward the memorandum to the Archbishop of Canterbury.
