This is the terrifying moment motorists drove across a road while floodwater gushed down from a mountain.

Torrential rains triggered by the monsoon winds caused rivers to swell and overflow alongside a mountain road in Khan Hoa province, Vietnam on December 2.

The high volume of water created several waterfalls on the roadside while drivers dangerously travelled along by the only road that leads out of the province.

Motorist Le Ngoc Quoc said the heavy rain has not stopped for three consecutive days, but he had no choice but to brave the roads because they are low on food supplies.

He said: "I was driving out when I saw the water pouring into the national road. This is the only route available so I had no choice.

"I am just worried that if the water continues to flow, the soil could collapse and cause a lot of problems."

Le Ngoc Quoc Dung added he was able to safely pass through the dangerous road and the water have subsided after almost two hours.

The south-central Vietnamese province has evacuated 1,500 people from several residential areas following severe flooding from the heavy rains.

Natural disasters, mostly floods, storms and landslides, have killed 372 people so far this year in Vietnam and left damage worth VND38.4 trillion ($1.65 billion).
