Bizarre Thai restaurant is decorated with thousands of condoms
A bizarre restaurant in Thailand is decorated with thousands of multi-coloured condoms.
Footage shows the entrance hall leading to Cabbages and Condoms restaurant in Bangkok filled with sculptures made from the rubber contraceptives.
Mannequins wearing dresses made from condoms welcome guests at the entrance.
There's even a towering figure of Santa Claus sculpted from red and white rubbers. While inside, the tables have condoms inlaid under glass surfaces.
Novelty items such as condom-themed figurines and small ornaments are sold at a souvenir shop at the entrance.
The quirky diner started as a small vegetable stand in front of The Population & Community Development Association (PDA) office.
Now, it offers a variety of Thai food including noodles, curries, and spicy vegetable salads.
Part of the revenue is donated to the PDA to fund its programs in sexual health, education, and HIV research.
Thailand is one of the world's largest producers of condoms, surpassing The Netherlands where Durex is manufactured.
Cabbages and Condoms restaurants were founded by Mechai Viravaidya and now have several branches around Thailand as well as two in the UK - one in Cheltenham and one in Oxford. However, the British branches are much more conservative and do not have the ostentatious condom displays.
The company says on their website: ''Our restaurant was conceptualized in part to promote better understanding and acceptance of family planning and to generate income to support various development activities of the Population and Community Development Association (PDA).''
