Car saved from flooded stream after heavy rain in central Thailand
A pickup truck was saved from a flooded stream after heavy rain battered central Thailand.
More than 100 tourists were stranded in their cars unable to cross an overflowed part of the river in Nakhon Nayok province, central Thailand on June 20.
After hours of waiting on the mountain trail, the water receded into muddy torrents so some of the bigger vehicles tried to cross.
However, a pickup truck had to be rescued as he miscalculated the force of the water and was stuck in the middle of the stream.
Village chief Phaiboon Jitsangiem said: ‘The water levels should have returned to normal after at least three hours but it was still high.
‘One of the pickup trucks tried crossing since he had a bigger vehicle than the others but he was stuck in the water so we called the rescuers for help.’
The rescue team used a cable to tow the pickup truck using a 4×4 vehicle. It was then used to help the other stranded drivers on the other end of the stream so they could safely cross.
Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are at the start of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
