Children living in Cape Town, South Africa, were provided with meals, treats and soft drinks by a community activist.

Mark Nicholson treated hundreds of kids to a pre-Christmas meal and party bags.

Nicholson has been working in the community to encourage youth to get involved in sport as an alternative to a life of crime and gangsterism.

According to Nicholson most of the parents of these kids are either on drugs or unemployed.

Lavender Hill is one of Cape Town’s most notorious gang areas. Children are often killed in gang crossfire during retaliation battles.
