Endangered manatee seeks warm water from storm drain during Florida cold snap

This endangered manatee was spotted today (January 24) enjoying the warm water flowing from a storm drain in Florida as a cold snap hit the Sunshine State.

Footage showed the rare marine mammal cruising into the marina in Delray Beach to warm its body after the mercury dropped to the low 40s Fahrenheit (approx 5 degrees celsius) at around dawn.

Manatees are having a tough time in Florida due to a massive die-off of the eelgrass they need to survive.

Authorities have begun feeding the hefty creatures for the first time this winter.

The eelgrass die-off is being blamed on agricultural run-off and over-development.
