A four-year-old boy was rescued along with his mum and grandpa after falling into a 33ft-deep well in Thailand.

The boy was playing in their garden in Roi Et province on February 5 when he climbed on top of the well's lid and jumped on its plastic net-covered centre. This caused the flimsy sheet to rip under his weight, plunging him into the water below.

The boy's grandmother, who was watering plants and did not see his mischief, immediately called for help. Her 70-year-old husband, and her daughter came rushing out and also jumped into the well to accompany the scared child while awaiting rescue.

The team arrived at the scene and tied some safety rope onto a nearby tree before rappelling down the well. All three were safely rescued within 10 minutes and did not suffer any major injuries.

Rescue worker Satit Saokomut said: 'The grandfather had a wounded thumbnail on his right thumb, while the kid was crying and panicking.

'In my experience, many houses keep their cement wells partially open with a plastic net like this. I think they should be fully sealed instead.'
