Hong Kong has launched a vaccine pass, as the territory battles a major Omicron surge.

The pass is aimed at persuading people to get their jabs. Many people in the city have yet to be vaccinated.

Since Thursday 24 February only those who are vaccinated or have exemptions from vaccination are allowed into government premises and 23 other types of places, including restaurants, shopping centres, wet markets and supermarkets.

Use of the government’s 'Leave Home Safe' risk-exposure app is also required for entry.

The vaccine pass, which is aimed at persuading those still unvaccinated to get their jabs, was introduced amid Hong Kong's explosion of Covid-19 cases in the ongoing fifth wave of infections.
