Sun directly overhead on hottest day of the year in Bangkok, Thailand
The sun was directly overhead Bangkok, Thailand, at 'High Noon' today as the country experienced its hottest day of the year.
Footage taken at 12.16 pm shows how shadows fell directly below people during the phenomenon. Officials from the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) said the sun was orbiting 'in a position perpendicular to the country'.
They added: 'The shadow will fall directly under the object to make it look virtually shadowless. In addition, on such days the Earth will receive full energy from the sun.'
The Meteorological Department of Thailand said temperatures in the capital Bangkok would vary between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius, but cloud cover would help it to feel cooler.
Officials recorded the hottest ever day in Thailand on April 28, 2016, in Mae Hong Son province when the temperature reached 44.6 degrees Celsius.
