Boy, 9, dies after being swept away by raging river in the Philippines
This is the harrowing moment locals scrambled to save a nine-year-old boy swept away by a raging river in the Philippines.
The child was reportedly bathing in St. Anthony Falls in Cavite province when the water suddenly swelled and dragged him under on May 1 afternoon.
Video shows panicked onlookers screaming while passersby jumped into the rapids trying to rescue the child. Several other people who were frolicking in the falls can be seen being pulled by the strong current.
Indang Municipality Police said the river suddenly gushed after sandbags stemming the flow of water collapsed, unleashing the deadly torrent on the hapless villagers. Six people were reportedly rushed to the hospital. The nine-year-old boy, however, did not survive.
Authorities are now investigating the incident.
