This is the dramatic moment hero locals saved a tourist who fell into a raging river while taking a selfie.

The group of visitors were swimming under a bridge when the water suddenly turned muddy and the current became stronger in Camarines Sur, the Philippines on May 11.

They rushed to the shore as the river grew in power, but one of them was stranded as he stood on the large rocks, taking snaps of himself with the rapids as his background.

The tourists frantically called for help before locals rushed to save the man by throwing a rubber ring at him and dragging him ashore - saving his life following the foolish act of vanity.

Onlooker Jessa Molina said: ‘He was taking a selfie when it happened so he did not realise right away that a flash flood was coming their direction.

‘No one stopped them from swimming there because it was not raining that day. However, it had been raining in the mountains and the water flowed here.’

Upon catching the rubber ring, the unidentified tourist wore it around his waist but was apparently reluctant to jump into the river as the current was too strong.

Locals then guided him and told him where to jump, before they pulled the rope with the rubber ring. The man was saved in less than five minutes.

The tourist was unhurt and thanked the kind locals for rescuing him.
