Ongoing heatwaves in central India have resulted in severe difficulties for many communities to access water.

Visuals shot on May 16 in Chanderi village in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, show women walking long distances in the heat to get to water-filled trenches to load up their pots and canisters.

With the trench water being dirty, they are seen using a piece of cloth to filter the liquid out before pouring it into the pot.

The temperatures in the district have reportedly shot up to 44 degrees Celsius, creating further water shortages.

Social worker MS Mewada appealed to the Madhya Pradesh chief minister to look into this problem. He also suggested that the Takipur dam be rebuilt so that water could be supplied to the houses in the village.
